Pack Station Help and FAQ

Getting Started

  1. Open the Configuration tab and add the people in your Household — these are who can come along on a trip.
  2. Add your luggage under Bags: a suitcase, a backpack, a toiletry bag.
  3. Check the Item library. It already contains plenty of common things, filed into folders, so most people add only what is particular to them.
  4. On the Home tab, tap Add trip and give it a name and dates.
  5. Choose a Destination, then pick who is going and which bags are coming.
  6. Open the Bags tab to build the packing list, then tick things off as they go in.

Trips

A trip is the unit everything else hangs from: it holds the dates, the destination, the people, the bags, and the packing list. The Home tab lists your upcoming trips, each showing how far along its packing is.

How do I add a destination?

Tap Choose destination and search for a place by name. The destination is what lets the trip show its location on a map and its weather, so a trip without one simply reads No destination chosen yet and works in every other respect.

Why can I not see the weather?

Weather needs a destination and a working connection, and it is only meaningful for dates close enough to forecast. When it cannot be fetched the trip says Weather is unavailable right now rather than showing a stale figure.

Can a trip repeat?

Yes. Set Repeats to every day, every week, every month, or chosen days of the week — useful for a commute, a weekly training session, or a regular shift. A repeating trip needs a start date.

I edited a repeating trip and was asked which trips to change.

That is deliberate. Choose This trip only to make a one-off change, or This trip and the ones after it to change the pattern from here on, leaving the trips you have already packed alone.

Can I be reminded to pack?

Yes. Use Remind me on a trip to schedule a reminder — once, daily, weekly, monthly, or on an interval you choose. Reminders are notifications, so if they are switched off at the system level the trip will tell you to turn notifications on in Settings instead of silently not reminding you.

What happens to a trip once it is over?

It moves to Past trips, a separate section for trips whose last day has passed, so the main list stays about what is coming. Past trips keep their packing lists and can still be opened.

Packing

The Bags tab is where a trip gets packed. Pick the trip you are packing for, then add items to its list from your library, from a template, or from another trip, and tick each one off as it goes in. The header keeps count, so you always know how many of the total are packed.

How do I add items quickly?

Search the library by name and select as many items as you like at once — Select all and Unselect all are there for whole folders. You can also start from a Template, or copy the list of another trip, which is usually the fastest route for a journey you have made before.

Can I pack more than one of something?

Yes. Each item on a list carries a count, raised and lowered with One more and One fewer, so three shirts are one entry rather than three.

Who carries which bag?

Assign a bag to a member of the household with Who carries this bag?. A bag nobody has taken on reads Nobody yet. This matters most when a family packs together, since it decides whose load a weight belongs to.

Does it track weight?

Yes, for items that have a weight recorded. A bag shows its Contents weight and the trip shows the total across All bags, which is what you check against an airline allowance. Give an item its weight with Edit item weight, and choose Metric (g / kg) or Imperial (oz / lb) in the Configuration tab.

Household, Bags, Library, and Templates

These four lists live in the Configuration tab and are shared by every trip. Setting them up once is what makes each new trip quick.

Household

The people who live here, and who can come along on a trip. A person can have an age and a photo — taken with the camera, chosen from a file, or picked from the sticker library.

Bags

The luggage the household packs into. The app ships none of these, so these are the bags you actually own. Each one can be renamed, given a photo of itself, and told which items live in it with Choose items — so a bag you always pack the same way already knows its contents.

Item library

Everything you own that you might pack, filed into folders. Items can be renamed, moved between folders, given a weight, and given a picture — your own photo or one of the bundled stickers. The library ships with a usable set of folders and items, and Reset to default brings that starting point back.

What is the difference between hiding and deleting an item?

Hiding keeps the item but takes it out of the lists you pick from, which is the right choice for something you own but never pack. Hidden items shows what you have hidden and lets you restore any of it. Deleting removes the item outright, though Restore deleted folders and Restore deleted stickers can bring back what shipped with the app.

Templates

Ready-made lists to start a trip from — a weekend bag, a beach holiday, a ski trip. A template is a named set of items, and it can belong either to the whole household or to one person, so "Beach holiday" is everyone's while "Ann's ski kit" is hers. Starting a trip from a template saves rebuilding the same list every time.

Appearance and Settings

What can I change in the Configuration tab?

  • Weight units: Metric (g / kg) or Imperial (oz / lb).
  • Temperature units: Celsius or Fahrenheit, used by the trip weather.
  • Sync, Export, and Import — see below.
  • Reset everything: deletes everything the app has stored on this device and starts again with what it ships. It asks for confirmation first, and anything you exported to a file is not affected.

What can I change in Settings?

  • Theme: System, Light, Dark, or Pink.
  • Large text: a larger type scale throughout the app.
  • Language: the app's display language.
  • Numeral system: the digits used for counts, weights, and dates — Latin, Arabic-Indic, Devanagari, Thai, and many more. This changes how numbers are drawn only; your trips are unaffected.
  • Notifications: whether reminders are delivered at all, and whether they carry Sound and Vibration. Promotional notifications are a separate switch.
  • Contact, rating, sharing, and website links.

Settings are reachable from the gear icon in the top bar.

Where do the bundled pictures come from?

The stickers that ship with the app are freely licensed images. Photo credits in the item library lists them.

Backup and Transfer

Can I back up or move my trips?

Yes, with a file. Export in the Configuration tab writes a snapshot of your trips, household, bags, library, and templates, and Import reads one back — which is also how you move everything to another device. On iOS the export goes through the system share sheet (Files, AirDrop, Mail, …), and on Android, macOS, and Windows through the normal save dialog.

Can my devices sync automatically?

Not yet. The Sync across devices card is visible in the Configuration tab, but both of its options are marked Not available yet and cannot be switched on — the feature is still being built. Until it ships, Export and Import are the way to move your trips between devices.

Where is my data stored?

On the device, in local storage belonging to the app, including the photos you add. Nothing is sent anywhere: there is no Pack Station account and no server of ours holding your trips. Exporting a snapshot is therefore the only backup, and worth doing before you reset anything.

FAQ

What does Pack Station do?

It keeps the packing lists for your trips. You describe your household, your bags, and the things you own once; then each trip is a matter of choosing who is going and what is coming, and ticking items off as they go in the bag. It also shows the destination and its weather, so what you pack can follow what you are heading into.

Do I have to fill in the library before the first trip?

No. The library arrives with a usable set of folders and items, so you can add a trip immediately and refine your lists as you go.

Does the app need an internet connection?

No. Trips, lists, and packing all work offline. A connection is needed for destination search and weather, and for optional extras such as store purchases and advertising.

What does the subscription change?

The subscription is optional and available as a monthly, 3-month, or yearly plan. It removes third-party advertising and unlocks subscription-only options, and it can be restored on your other supported devices from Settings using the same store account.

Troubleshooting Checklist

  1. The packing list is empty — choose a trip to pack for first, then add items to it.
  2. Nobody can be added to a trip — add the people under Household in the Configuration tab.
  3. No bags can be chosen — add your luggage under Bags in the Configuration tab.
  4. Weather is missing — the trip needs a destination, a connection, and dates near enough to forecast.
  5. Place search found nothing — check the spelling and your connection, then search a larger nearby town.
  6. A reminder never arrived — allow notifications, then check Sound and Vibration in Settings.
  7. Editing a repeating trip changed more than I wanted — choose This trip only next time.
  8. An item vanished from the library — it may be hidden; look under Hidden items and restore it.
  9. Bag weights look wrong — only items with a recorded weight count, so give the missing ones a weight.
  10. Weights or temperatures are in the wrong units — change the standards in the Configuration tab.
  11. A trip is missing on another device — device sync is not available yet; move it with Export and Import.
  12. Everything is gone after a reset — Reset everything cannot be undone; restore from an exported snapshot.
